Overview
South Carolina recorded around 2,800 wildfires in 2023, most sparked by debris burning and dry conditions in the Sandhills and coastal plain, burning an estimated 12,000 acres statewide. The South Carolina Forestry Commission leads suppression efforts across the state's extensive pine forests.
