Hawaii

Hawaii, an isolated volcanic archipelago in the central Pacific, is the only U.S. state that is not part of the North American continent and the only one with a majority Asian-American population. Tourism, the U.S. military and agriculture (coffee, macadamia nuts, seed corn) anchor its economy, while nearly all consumer goods and fuel must be shipped or flown in, making it the most expensive state to live in. Its Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage remains central to state identity, language and culture.
